Becky, Dresden Files question
Hey, Becky. I don't remember seeing this in any of the books, and I haven't read all that many of the short stories. You might know more about this.

Has Harry ever seen Michael with his Sight?

Not that I remember. I have Grave Peril with me and Harry mentions that he has soulgazed Michael when they first met. I think he says that Michael insisted on meeting his eyes. But I don't know that he's seen Michael with his Sight.

Hmm. After what we know Murphy looks like under Harry's Sight, it would be interesting to know how Michael looks. But now considering that Michael is out of the game, I don't think we'll get to know.

Well, he did appear in the novella, so he might appear as Molly's Dad, rather than Knight of the Cross. OTOH, it's explicitly stated that he and his household are shielded from supernatural harm because of his service, so he's not likely to be in a situation where Harry will be using his Sight.

Considering all Harry says about his soulgaze with Michael was that it made him weep, it does say he probably looks impressive under Sight.

True. Like I said, I haven't read many of the short stories, so I was a little ignorant of that. I kind of imagine Michael looking a lot like Murphy, that type of warrior, only a little closer to say... Mab and Titania in terms of utter thereness. Man, that kind of thing IS hard to describe.

I'm kind of obsessive about the short stories. (Plus, they let me check out other authors that write similar stuff.) I'm only missing one, actually. Some of it does get mentioned in canon later -- I know Something Borrowed and Heorot both have details that are worked into the canon.

No, I think I get it. Michael is a veritable rock of faith, for all that his name isn't Peter. (I do think the three Knights we've met have different styles. Michael is very much the traditional one, Shiro almost embarrassingly fits into the old Asian Master stereotype, and Sanya comes off as a bit like Harry in the fact he improvises more and hits like a ton of hammers. No, brain, you can't try to shove them into D&D roles.)

I've read the one about Thomas's birthday, and I've read Backup (which should have been in a short story collection and not its own book, publishing company), but unless it has a few authors I REALLY WANT TO READ (the birthday one had Tanya Huff and Kelley Armstrong as well, and thank you Ms. Armstrong for FINALLY giving us more about your vampires and Cassandra in particular) I don't want to spend the money. I know Will and Georgia's wedding got worked into canon.

... is it just me, or does the purity of Michael's faith and the sheer goodness of the man hit a few emotional chords? How he believes and doesn't push it down anyone else's throats and is just a good person, period, makes me want to weep. I like him so much and his faith almost reminds me of Zanne's (believes without being pushy) that the sheer purity of it makes me want to cry.

::nods:: If we weren't on the wrong side of the country, I'd loan you mine.

I agree. Which is probably how Harry and Michael are so close. Harry's prickly about God and religion, and any attempt to evangelize would turn him off, and he'd get more smart-assed than usual. As is, he gets invited to Thanksgiving and even watches his language around the family.

Most likely. Not to mention that Harry could tell from the soulgaze that Michael is just simply a good guy. There aren't many of those any more. Harry is very much the Average Joe, but Michael is a real Good Guy, not the ones that play good and nice to further their own ends, and those are just so rare. He's about as pure as you can get without seeing wings, I believe.

Yeah. (Admittedly, The Warrior (the short story with him in it) has Uriel note that Michael's major flaw is that he's a bit irrational about kids, so he's not perfect.)

Which he shares with Harry. And it's good that he's not perfect. Makes him human.
